Carnival in Trinidad is a riot of color, music, dancing and enthusiasm. For four days the busy streets of Port of Spain are transformed by the sounds of soca and reggae, the rhythm of the steel bands, pulsing crowds of dancers and, of course, tourists from around the world. Lone Star Revolution

For ten short years in the 1800's the independent nation of Texas flourished in the grasslands and desert along the Rio Grande, after a hard-fought battle for independence from Mexico. This story photographed for Endless Vacation followed the Texas Independence Trail from the Alamo in San Antonio, to Goliad and Gonzales, and San Jacinto, site the final victory over Santa Ana, to the log cabin at Washington on the Brazos where the Declaration of Independence was signed.

Haunted castles in Scotland was the subject of this Endless Vacation magazine assignment.

Many of the Scottish castles are known for their apparitions, spirits who linger and occasionally return to surprise the inhabitants; the Grey Lady of Fyvie and the beaded ghost of Glamis are but a few. None showed up during my photo sessions, but the expectation was all the fun.

Still Life with Volcano

The volcanic Caribbean island of Montserrat is gradually recovering from the series of eruptions which rocked the island. Residents and tourists are returning and rebuilding is underway. Surprisingly, many areas of the island are undamaged and lush forests still cover the hillsides of the north. The capital town of Plymouth, now abandoned, rests under 30 feet of ash.

Many of the formerly grand residences of the princes and maharajahs of Rajasthan in northeastern India have now opened as luxury resorts, new sources of revenue for their former owners, and opulent, once-in-a-lifetime experiences for visitors. Halfway to the Stars

Orange Coast magazine featured this story on some of the over 350 stairways of San Francisco. From the wooden Filbert Steps rise 284 feet from the waterfront through carefully manicured gardens to the top of Telegraph Hill, to the carefully tended gardens of camellias, azaleas, nasturtiums and Japanese maples which grace the Greenwich steps, ach stairway has its own character and ambiance.
